Last week the domestic crew traveled across the USofA to West Yellowstone, Montana and now all of SMST2 is on snow! Our roller skis are now stored away for their long hibernation (fingers crossed) and the ski season has officially begun. On Thursday afternoon we pulled into the Rendezvous Trail Head in West Yellowstone, eagerly scrapped our skis in the parking lot and ran to the ski trails. Since then I think the best description of the mood and atmosphere on the team is elation bordering on gleeful euphoria. Skiing Is Fun and we are all psyched to have found winter and to be back snow.
The conditions here have been amazing so far and the forecast looks perfect for the rest of our time out west. Although I must admit the last few days here proofed to be a test in climate adaptation. Yesterday we started skiing at 9am and the temperature was -5ºF, two hours later at the end of the session the temperature was still below 0ºF. We are all hoping the cold temps will travel home!
This week marks our final prep phase before the opening SuperTour races of the year. The main objectives for the week include: adjusting to the altitude, sharpening up for a full weekend of racing, testing skis and getting fired up for the competition season to commence!
