Today Simi Hamilton was the second fastest man in the world! It was a great day for the SMST2 team skiing the World Cup skate sprint in Toblach, Italy. Sophie, Andy and Jessie all qualified for the heats as well, and Sophie placed 7th on the day.
Skiing a tactically smart and smooth race, Simi stayed near the front of the pack in the men’s sprint final, then moved to take the lead over the top of the last hill. Pellegrino used the draft to move into first place, but Simi held off the rest of the field to earn his first sprint podium outside of the Tour de Ski!
Simi says: “I’m ecstatic to be on the World Cup podium again, the feeling is amazing. I felt great all day and had super fast skis, so my confidence seemed to grow and grow with each heat throughout the day. I feel like my form and my speed are really good this year, so I was excited to be able to showcase that without having something go wrong like it did last weekend with a broken pole in the sprint in Davos. I’m super proud of our whole team today, we had some really strong skiing by everyone. And to have all four of us SMS T2 skiers in the points is a great feeling and something I’m very proud of. I can’t thank everyone back home in Vermont and Colorado enough for all of the support and good vibes they send us over here in Europe on a daily basis. We are super lucky to have such amazing communities behind us and we can’t wait for more great racing to come this season!”
We’re super proud of our hardworking, speedy and smiling teammate!
Time for a training break over the Holidays, and then the start of the Tour de Ski on January 1st in Lenzerheide, Switzerland.
